Before you start a new job, you always wonder what your new colleagues are going to be like, and how you’ll fit in with them. The same is true of signing up to a shared office space for your remote working, as you’ll be working alongside people you’ve probably never even met before. So, we thought it’d be a nice idea to introduce you to some of our hot desk residents and put a friendly face to your potential ‘colleagues’ at our shared, flexible office space, the UOE Hub in Hertford.
In the first of our new series, meet Andy Walden, who’s just moved into one of our offices. He works for the Mitula Group, a global concern based in Madrid and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. We asked him what his job involves.
“We manage and operate our own online vertical search engines around the world, under several brands including Mitula, Nestoria, Nuroa and Dotproperty. Effectively we aggregate classifieds listings – mainly in the categories of Real Estate, Jobs, and Cars – providing visitors to our websites with a complete picture of the market from which to start their search.”
“As Head of Corporate Financial Services, most of my time is spent on merger and acquisition activities – carrying out financial due diligence and analysis for potential acquisition targets. But I also support the CEO and Board on a number of corporate, financial and strategic projects across the Group, while still managing some commercial relationships with our key customers in the UK.”
Andy is the only staff member based in the UK; he chose to rent an office at the Hub mainly because of its location, in his home town.
He’d only been with us for a few days when we spoke to him, but he said he liked being at the Hub as having other people around him prevents him from feeling isolated, at the same time as creating the atmosphere of a working environment. The co-working space also allows him to get away from the distractions of working at home. He has already found it more productive in that respect, and his office provides a base where he can keep his files and equipment.
He’s yet to have a game of ping pong so why not challenge him to a game in order to get to know him better!
