If you’re setting up business in St Albans, there are loads of opportunities to network with other local businesses. Going to networking events is a great way of getting your brand out there and is especially useful for up-and-coming B2B companies. However, remember to take a softly-softly approach – you’re in it for the long haul, so this is not a sales event. Networking events are designed to help you build connections and trust with other businesspeople – so take your time to get to know them and give them time to get to know you. As soon as people see you as an expert in your field, as well as a great person, they’ll come to you!
Here is just a small selection of the networking groups in St Albans.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that if you’re not a mum this isn’t for you. It’s for everyone! The main idea is that it’s family-friendly networking, recognising that entrepreneurs who have small children can sometimes have to cancel things at the last minute because of childcare issues. You pay in advance for attending meetings, but if you can’t make it, that’s OK, you won’t lose your money. Or you can bring your child with you – it’s not ideal to do so, but it is a child-friendly environment. So if you’re a mumpreneur or a dadpreneur, your children have flown the nest or you don’t have children at all, you’re all welcome to the St Albans networking events!
Business Buzz is a great low-cost networking event that’s held on the third Thursday of the month at the Beech House in St Albans. There’s no membership and no booking – you simply turn up between 10am and 12pm, pay £6 at the door or through the app, and get chatting. It’s very informal and welcoming and is usually very busy.
The St Albans District Chamber of Commerce has over 400 members. It holds monthly networking breakfasts and lunches, so you can get to meet the decision makers who work for a huge range of businesses. In addition, the Chamber organises events for new members and speed networking, as well as social events.
Although it is not strictly a local networking organisation, the FSB does run virtual networking events for businesses in Hertfordshire and the East of England as part of its ongoing support for small businesses across the UK. Check out the event calendar for details.
Calling itself the ‘best kept secret in St Albans’ the Entrepreneurs Circle meets once a month. Unusually for networking events, meetings are held in the early evenings, meaning you can drop in on your way home from work. Every session will share a practical marketing tactic that will help you grow your fan base.
The Athena Network is a women’s business networking organisation which has two branches in St Albans – St Albans South and St Albans North. Both currently meet virtually, so you’re bound to find a date for networking that suits you. The Network also runs Multi Region Cappuccino Connections Events, virtual events that link members from all over the country.
